Schüler- und Lehrertag

Die Angebote des Schüler- und Lehrertages richten sich an Schüler älter als 15 Jahre aller Schulformen, Auszubildende für technische Berufe sowie Fachlehrer insbesondere für Chemie, Physik und Technik. Teilnehmer sollten zusätzlich über Kenntnisse der physikalischen und chemischen Grundlagen verfügen. Alle Beiträge werden in Deutsch gehalten. Damit auch alle internationalen Gäste den Präsentationen und Diskussionen folgen können, wird eine Simultanübersetzung ins Englische angeboten. Ein wesentlicher Teil dieser internationalen Gäste wird durch die nationalen Teams des Globalen Schülerwettbewerbs der Internationalen Partnerschaft für eine Wasserstoffwirtschaft (IPHE) gestellt, die als Wettbewerbsgewinner zur WHEC2010 nach Essen eingeladen werden. Diese Teams werden geehrt und erhalten die Chance, ihre Arbeiten im Rahmen des Schüler- und Lehrertages zu präsentieren. Dies kann in Form eines Vortrages oder als Betriebsdemonstration der in Eigenarbeit gefertigten Brennstoffzellenmodelle geschehen. Im Einzelnen umfasst das Tagesprogramm des Schüler- und Lehrertages
- eine Reise durch die Welt der Wasserstofftechnologie mit Experimenten sowie Gesprächen mit Vertretern aus Forschung und Wirtschaft,
- eine Preisverleihung und Teampräsentationen,
- eine Börse zur Information über Praktikums-, Studien- und Stellenangebote,
- parallele Workshops rund um die Brennstoffzellentechnologie
- einen betreuten Messebesuch und
- eine Teilnahme am Ride & Drive Event.
Alle Teilnehmer des Schüler- und Lehrertages erhalten umfassendes Begleitmaterial zu allen Beiträgen und am Ende des Tages eine offizielle, persönliche Teilnahmebescheinigung.

Events for school students and teachers

The range of events for school students and teachers are aimed at students above the age of 15 in all secondary schools, trainees in technical areas, and secondary school teachers, particularly those in the areas of physics, chemistry and technology. Participants should have a basic knowledge of physics and chemistry. All lectures and talks will be held in German. However, simultaneous interpreting into English will be offered to allow international visitors follow presentations and discussions. The majority of these international visitors will be made up of the national teams who took part in the global school student competition organized by the International Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy (IPHE). They have been invited to come to WHEC2010 in Essen as national champions. Tribute will be paid to these teams at WHEC2010, where they will also have an opportunity to present their work as part of the events organized for school students and teachers. They can choose to do so in the form of a presentation or lecture or in the form of a live demonstration of their fuel cell models in operation. The programme of events for students and teachers includes the following:
- a journey through the world of hydrogen technology with experiments and talks by representatives from research and industry,

- an award ceremony and team presentations,
- a forum with information on work placements, university courses and vacant positions,
- parallel workshops on topics related to fuel cell technology,
- a guided tour of the exhibition, and
- participation in a ride & drive event.
All participants in the events for school students and teachers will receive complementary material on all presentations and an official personalized certificate of participation at the end of the day.

Global Project IPHE School Student Competition
IPHE Global School Student Competition
The IPHE Global School Student Competition is an approved “Global Project” of the IPHE (International Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy, www.iphe.net). The idea is to organize school student competitions on hydrogen and fuel cells in the participating countries and to invite the respective national winners to the 18th World Hydrogen Energy Conference (WHEC) in May 2010 in the city of Essen, Germany. The objectives of the competition are
- to increase young people's awareness, enthusiasm and knowledge of hydrogen and fuel cells,
- to bring hydrogen and fuel cells into the public’s attention,
- to increase the visibility of the IPHE.
The finale of the competition will be integrated in the School Student’s Day of the WHEC that will take place on Monday, May 17, 2010. Here, the national winner teams will be honored by high level (IPHE) representatives and they will have the opportunity to present their working results by a presentation, poster or by showcasing their self designed hydrogen / fuel cell applications. In addition, an interesting technical programme will be offered to the national winner teams including a trade fair visit, taking part in the drive&ride event and a technical tour to fuel cell and hydrogen projects.
The national winner teams will be selected within national competitions in the participating countries. These competitions have to cover the generic topic of hydrogen and fuel cells, the specific tasks will be defined individually by the national organisers. This arrangement offers a flexible frame, where every participating country can bring in its own approach to the common objectives of the competition.

LATVIA: The Latvian competition will focus on the topic “Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Technology usage in transport”. The competition consists of two parts: the first part comprises a qualification round with a short description from the team about the idea of the project and a working schedule. In the second part the qualified teams will be equipped with the necessary materials to develop their projects practically. The age of the students ranges from 13 to 17.

USA: The Hydrogen Student Design Contest, organized by the National Hydrogen Association, challenges multi-disciplinary teams of university-level students from around the world to develop and design hydrogen applications for real-world use. This year’s contest is focused on the “Planning and design of a cluster of hydrogen fueling stations for a California city”. This is the Contest’s fifth year.

GERMANY: The German competition will be accomplished under „Jugend forscht“ (Youth researches), a well-established German youth competition on natural science and technology. This year a special prize for hydrogen and fuel cells will be awarded. The age of the students ranges from 15 to 21.

IPHE Globaler Schülerwettbewerb
Der IPHE Globale Schülerwettbewerb ist ein anerkanntes „globales Projekt“ der Internationalen Partnerschaft für eine Wasserstoffwirtschaft (IPHE, www.iphe.net). Die Idee dahinter ist, Schülerwettbewerbe zum Thema Wasserstoff und Brennstoffzellen in teilnehmenden Staaten zu organisieren und die jeweiligen nationalen Wettbewerbsgewinner zur 18. Welt-Wasserstoffenergie-Konferenz (WHEC) im Mai 2010 nach Essen einzuladen. Die Ziele des Wettbewerbs sind
- das Bewusstsein junger Leute für Wasserstoff und Brennstoffzellen zu verstärken, sowie ihre Begeisterung für und Kenntnisse über diese Technologien zu steigern,
- die öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit auf Wasserstoff und Brennstoffzellen zu lenken,
- die Sichtbarkeit der IPHE zu verbessern.
Die Endrunde des Wettbewerbs wird als Teil des WHEC-Schülertages am Montag, den 17. Mai 2010 stattfinden. Die nationalen Gewinner werden von hochrangigen Vertretern der IPHE geehrt und eine Gelegenheit erhalten, die Ergebnisse ihrer Arbeiten in Form eines Vortrages, eines Posters oder einer Demonstration ihrer selbstgefertigten Wasserstoff- oder Brennstoffzellenmodelle zu präsentieren. Darüber hinaus wird den nationalen Wettbewerbsiegern ein interessantes technisches Programm geboten, bestehend aus einem Messebesuch, der Teilnahme an einem Ride&Drive-Event, und einer Besichtigung technischer Projekte mit Bezug zu Brennstoffzellen- und Wasserstoff.
Die nationalen Siegermannschaften werden im Rahmen nationaler Wettbewerbe in den teilnehmenden Ländern ausgewählt. Diese Wettbewerbe müssen das allgemeine Thema von Wasserstoff und Brennstoffzelle berücksichtigen. Spezifische Aufgaben werden von den nationalen Organisatoren definiert. Somit wird ein flexibler Rahmen geschaffen, der jedem teilnehmenden Land ermöglicht, die gemeinsamen Ziele des Wettbewerbs durch seinen eigenen Ansatz zu realisieren.

JAPAN: Der japanische Wettbewerb konzentriert sich auf das Thema „Brennstoffzellenfahrzeuge“. Die erfolgreichen Teams im Alter zwischen 16 und 18 Jahren werden in einer nationalen Endrunde vor der WHEC ausgewählt.
LETTLAND: Der lettische Wettbewerb konzentriert sich auf das Thema „Transportanwendungen für Brennstoffzellen- und Wasserstofftechnologien“. Der Wettbewerb besteht aus zwei Teilen: der erste Teil beinhaltet eine Qualifikationsrunde, in der die Teams eine Kurzbeschreibung ihrer Projekte und einen Terminplan einreichen. Im zweiten Teil werden die erfolgreichen Teams mit den notwendigen Betriebsmitteln ausgestattet, um ihre Projekte in der Praxis zu realisieren. Die Schüler sind zwischen 13 und 17 Jahren alt.

USA: Der vom nationalen Wasserstoffverband organisierte Wasserstoff Design-Wettbewerb für Studenten fordert multidisziplinäre Teams von Hochschulstudenten überall in der Welt auf, praktische Wasserstoffanwendungen zu entwickeln und zu entwerfen. Das Motto dieses Jahr lautet „Die Planung und Entwicklung eines Wasserstoff-Tankstellennetzes für eine kalifornische Stadt“. Der Wettbewerb findet zum fünften Mal statt.

DEUTSCHLAND: Der deutsche Wettbewerb findet im Rahmen von „Jugend forscht“ statt. „Jugend forscht“ ist ein etablierter deutscher Wettbewerb für Jugendliche zum Thema Wissenschaft und Technologie. Dieses Jahr wird ein Sonderpreis für Wasserstoff und Brennstoffzellen verliehen. Die Schüler sind zwischen 15 und 21 Jahre alt.

ISLAND: Island wählt das beste Projekt der in diesem und im letzten Jahr stattgefundenen Schulung „Erneuerbare Energiewissenschaft“ aus und schickt die erfolgreichsten Schüler nach Essen.
